An idea for a colourful and inexpensive way to decorate a party venue – collect used glass jars, spray with krylon looking-glass mirror-like paint and tie a piece of ribbon around the top. Fill the jars with flowers from the garden, wild flowers, grasses & wild strawberries and a few red gerberas.
I will be teaching a 10 week course on 20th Century Fashion History at Worthing Museum starting in September. If you can’t get to the course or would like to find out a bit more, I am giving a talk at MIY Workshop in Brighton on Monday 15th July from 7pm – 8.30pm. There will be samples of clothing, accessories and magazines from my own collection to handle.
Tickets will be £5 per person and numbers are limited to just 15. When they’re gone, they’re gone! To book your place contact Wendy at MIY Workshop on post[at]wendyward.co.uk or ring 01273 693451 or 775951 http://miyworkshop.co.uk/
Thanks to the lovely people at Making magazine for letting me publish this project on my blog. This is a really easy top to make and the stretch denim from Ditto works so well. It’s a good idea to try the top on before adding the bias binding. Make the shoulder darts a bit bigger if needed. Would love to see pictures of any made up.
I made this in cotton but it would work well in silk. Thanks to Making magazine and http://craftsinstitute.com for permission to publish on my blog

The April edition of Making is out! It’s the sewing issue and has 30 projects to make. This covered umbrella was an easy project to make and when the weather improves (fingers crossed) I’m going to try the same technique to cover my old garden parasol. Thanks to Making and publishers http://www.craftsinstitute.com for permission to reproduce my project
Featured in the February issue of Making, my quilted flight bag is just the right size to carry as hand luggage. The idea is that it will squash into any overhead locker. It has a zipped pocket inside for travel documents. I tested it on a flight to Spain and it is comfortable to carry and bright enough to be easily spotted in the locker!
